Tech City has a new chief executive. If you find yourself at dinner with her, what wine should you order? A new subscription wine club has the answers.
Powers Merlot 2007, Columbia Valley, Washington State
Merlots have broad-based appeal, but, as you would expect of the new chief executive of Tech City, this is no ordinary merlot. It has a little maturity, and that time in bottle has added complexity and softened edges.
Still bright in the glass, with a deep ruby colour and appealing dark fruit aromas; the palate is soft, with spiced damson fruits, a touch of mocha, and a long, satisfying finish. Great to pair with some lamb cutlets.
Joanna Shields has famously perfect timing, having cashed out on a high multiple times, and this trailblazing vineyard, like almost every organisation Joanna’s ever joined, is one of the most vibrant around. But what of the famous passion synonymous with start-up founders?
“I am the luckiest guy in the world because I get up, walk out the door and get to do what I love everyday.” Bill Powers – upon receiving the lifetime achievement award from the Washington Association of grape growers.
This wine proves that it is possible to compete with and beat the best that California has to offer. We’re sure Joanna would approve.
